Oxford RL is the county’s first professional Rugby League club playing home matches at Iffley Road Stadium. The team formed in October 2012 and play in Kingstone Press Championship One which is the third tier of the professional Rugby League pyramid in the UK. The squad is made up of local talent from Oxford, the south of England and a small number of experienced northern players. In the inaugural season, Oxford RL finished in 6th place and qualified for the end of season play-offs at the first time of asking. The phrase ‘thriller’ at Iffley was regularly used for our home games, as there was never a dull moment, with both last minute celebrations and heart-aches. Take a look at the season highlights video and you can see what the fans were treated to. If you like dynamic sport, fast action with skill and total contact, then Oxford RL is your team. Rugby league is a game that all the family can enjoy, so what are you waiting for? Come down and experience it for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. Highlights from Saturdays match (28/12/13) against Solihull Moors. Oxford City fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Solihull Moors on Saturday as the visitors rose to the summit of the Skrill North. The kickoff was delayed some 10 minutes with an Ambulance in attendance with the match referee taken unwell before kickoff, luckily local official Graham Norris was in attendance and his afternoon was to become more involved as he was drafted in to run the line. The match eventually got underway and City looked bright in the opening 10 minutes, Tom Winters firing over from a good position. Solihull were themselves a very organised and hardworking side and on 20 minutes Peter Till opened the scoring when he beat Mark Scott in the City goal. City had a further spell of pressure for the opening 15 minutes of the second half and came close when a Solihull defender deflected an effort onto the crossbar. Solihull doubled their advantage when their hotshot striker Omar Bogle outpaced Chris Wilmott down the right flank on the hour mark before cutting inside and unleashing a fierce drive past scott, to their credit City continued to fight and the combination of returning Mark Bell & Tom Winters looked to unlock the Solihull defence but it was to be a fruitless afternoon in front of goal for the City attackers.
On a cold Tuesday evening, Oxford City took on Workington in the Skrill North division at Marsh Lane. After winning the coin toss, Oxford kicked off the first half and unaffected by the long bus journey down both sides started brightly with attacking football. Workington were awarded a penalty in the first half when Josef Jackson was fouled by Adam Learoyd, Jackson brushed himself down only to see his penalty saved by Mark Scott who dived to his left to keep the ball out. Despite a flurry of free kicks for Oxford towards the end of the second half, the game remained goaless at the break. Workington started the second half and both sides remained unrewarded until the 50th minute where Adam Learoyd hit a 15 yard shot which took a large deflection over the keepers head and ended in the back of the net. Refusing to be beaten, Workington kept attacking and were rewarded on the 68th minute. An attempt on goal by David Lynch was only half cleared by cities Benjamin McKenna, with the ball ending over the line to see the score now even. Workington were once again awarded a penalty for a foul by Ballard. But once again cities keeper, Mark Scott, saved the shot by Ross Wilson. City forced further chances in the match however a poor free kick from substitute Chris Palmer was the perfect height for Worthington's keeper, Joel Dixon, to collect. After a list minute free kick for Worthington went out of play the referee blew the full time whistle and both sides left the pitch with a point.

Paramotor flying - 45 mile flight around north Oxfordshire
First really decent day of the year for flying so we decided to do a decent cross country. We decided to fly to Deddington via Banbury and then back, roughly a 45 mile flight although that's from google maps as I forgot to start my gps... It was pretty gusty with loads of thermals around to start, I went full reflex and enjoyed the view for half the flight, but the fusion is bomb proof! I used around 9 litres of fuel for the 1 hour 50 minute flight and the engine was perfect all the way :-) although my hands were bloody freezing when I landed!!
